Many summer residents and gardeners who grow strawberries on their plots sooner or later think about replacing their strawberry beds.
And if this is not possible and the area is occupied by other plants, you can simply renew the bushes.
Together with the expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , we figure out what needs to be done for this.
It is customary to replace old bushes with new ones every 4-5 years. However, it sometimes happens that it is not possible to do this.
In order for the old bushes to feed us for some time, we can resort to the following trick.
Overgrown strawberry bushes need to be thinned out properly. To do this, first remove the runners and weeds.
Then you need to cut off the old leaves, leaving only the stumps.
And then you will have to remove the new shoots, since it is difficult for the old bush to feed so many shoots at once. It is best to start from the middle, so that the bush can “breathe” freely, or leave 3-4 shoots in the middle and get rid of the young ones.
After pruning, the roots need to be sprinkled with soil and the plant watered.
