Every gardener dreams of collecting whole kilograms of delicious harvest from their raspberry bushes.
However, it is not always possible to achieve such a result.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained how to achieve high-quality fruiting from raspberries.
According to the expert, it is extremely important not to skip pruning at the beginning of summer, namely, in the first days of June.
Why is pruning so important? The fact is that this procedure helps to redirect the bushes' energy to fruiting, and it also strengthens the plant's root system.
Also, removing unnecessary shoots improves air circulation in the garden crop.
To ensure that raspberry pruning has a positive result, at the beginning of summer, identify the main young shoots that should be left for the following year.
Traditionally, it is accepted to believe that there should be 15-20 fruit-bearing shoots per 1 square meter of berry bush. The optimal option is 8-12 new shoots.
Important note: after the main fruiting period has passed, all two-year-old “spent” branches should be cut off from the raspberry.
