Zucchini contains many vitamins, minerals and fiber, which improve digestion and health.
But how can you get a larger and better quality harvest of zucchini?
We will tell you about some useful tips that will help you achieve this, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
There are many varieties of zucchini that differ in shape, color, size, and taste of the fruit. Choose a variety depending on your preferences and climate conditions.
Some varieties are more resistant to drought, cold, or disease. For example, the Zucchini variety has long, thin green fruits, the White Bush variety has short, thick white fruits, and the Golden variety has yellow fruits with dark stripes.
Zucchini likes loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Before planting zucchini in spring or summer, you need to prepare the soil in the fall or winter.
To do this, you need to dig the soil to a depth of 20-30 centimeters and add organic fertilizers such as compost, manure or peat. You can also add mineral fertilizers such as phosphorus, potassium or nitrogen.
Zucchini can be grown from seeds or seedlings. Seeds should be sown in open ground when the soil warms up to 15-18 degrees Celsius.
Seedlings can be grown in pots or containers in a greenhouse or on a windowsill 3-4 weeks before planting in the ground.
When planting zucchini, you need to maintain a distance of 50-70 centimeters between plants and 1-1.5 meters between rows.
You can also grow zucchini in beds or hills for better drainage and increased yield.
Zucchini requires regular watering, fertilizing, weeding, and protection from pests and diseases. Water zucchini moderately but regularly, especially in hot and dry weather. Avoid flooding the soil and getting water on the leaves and fruits.
Feed the zucchini once every two weeks with liquid organic or mineral fertilizer. Weed the soil around the zucchini and loosen it to improve the access of air and moisture to the roots.
Protect zucchini from pests and diseases such as aphids, mole crickets, spider mites, powdery mildew or gray mold. For this, you can use biological or chemical means of protection or folk methods.
Zucchini will begin to bear fruit 40-60 days after planting. Harvest the fruit when it reaches the desired size and color.
Do not allow the fruit to become overgrown, as this reduces the quality and taste of the squash and slows down the formation of new fruit.
Harvest the fruit carefully, cutting it off with a knife or pruning shears along with part of the stem. Store the squash in a cool, dry place.
These were some useful tips that will help you get a good harvest of zucchini this year. Grow zucchini with pleasure and enjoy them fresh or canned.
