Slugs are unwelcome guests in any garden.
They feed on plants, leaving behind slime and damage.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explains how to fight these pests and protect your harvest.
One of the easiest and cheapest ways is to collect slugs by hand and destroy them. To do this, you need to inspect the garden early in the morning or in the evening when slugs are active.
You can also use baits, such as cabbage leaves, pieces of vegetables or fruit, beer or kefir. Slugs will gather on them, and then they can be easily collected and thrown away.
Another effective way is to attract natural enemies of slugs to the garden, such as hedgehogs, frogs, lizards, birds or insects.
To do this, you need to create favorable conditions for them, for example, install feeders, drinkers or shelters.
You can also plant plants that repel slugs, such as yarrow, thyme, marjoram, onions, garlic or mustard.
If mechanical and biological methods do not help, you can resort to chemical means.
There are special preparations that kill slugs or repel them.
However, care must be taken when using them, as they can be dangerous to humans, animals and plants.
It is necessary to follow the instructions for use, wear protective clothing and gloves, and store the drugs in an inaccessible place.
