Melons are quite capricious and do not always produce a good harvest in our latitudes.

It is also important to correctly determine when watermelons and melons can be picked from the garden.

Let us list the characteristic signs indicating the ripeness of the fruit.

How to understand that a watermelon is ripe in the garden

In the case of melon, it is a little easier to understand that it is ripe. The melon crop changes color from green to yellow and begins to exude a pleasant aroma, characteristic of melon.

The big advantage of melon is that even if picked unripe, it will ripen without problems in a dark and dry place at home. But watermelon will not ripen on its own at home.

In addition, the watermelon does not change in appearance at all, so other signs indicate its ripening:

  • the berry stalk and tendril dry out;
  • the side on which the watermelon ripened turns bright yellow;
  • the watermelon bark acquires a clear pattern;
  • When the fruit is tapped, it makes a ringing sound.
