Many summer residents are faced with the fact that potatoes are attacked by late blight and the Colorado potato beetle.

But it is not necessary to use special chemicals to combat them.

Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggested what to plant next to potatoes to get rid of pests and diseases.

Useful plants

To combat late blight and the Colorado potato beetle, it is enough to plant the right crops near the potatoes.

In particular, garlic or onions can be planted between the rows. These plants will repel insects.

Also, thanks to this proximity, potatoes will be less susceptible to late blight.

Beans will also be a useful neighbor for potatoes. This crop will help enrich the soil with nitrogen.

Beans can also disinfect the soil and help repel pests.

What else can be planted?

Potatoes will benefit from being planted next to calendula. It will also help fight pests.

Moreover, this plant will not compete with tubers for nutrients. Therefore, it can be safely planted even between rows.

The Colorado potato beetle and other insects will not bother potatoes if you plant marigolds, tansy or coriander nearby.

Previously we talked about the most harmful neighbors for grapes.
