If you do not care for currants properly, their yield will be much worse.
As a result, the berries may become small and tasteless, and their quantity may also be disappointing.
Agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggested how to correct this situation and increase the yield of currants.
The root system of the bushes is superficial. At the same time, currants do not tolerate drying out of the soil.
Various mechanical damage to the roots also has a negative effect on its condition.
All this can lead to crop loss. Therefore, it is not advisable to apply fertilizers with incorporation.
It is best to make a couple of holes near the bush. Afterwards, you can pour a teaspoon of fertilizer into them.
Mulching should not be neglected either. Thanks to this, several problems can be solved at once, including weeds and drought.
Mulch will provide the plant with the necessary protection and nutrients.
In the spring, you can combine mulching and fertilizing. To do this, you can add a bucket of rotted manure under the bush.
You can also mulch the bushes using hay or straw.
You can also use sawdust. Just soak it in a solution of ammonium nitrate or urea first. You will need a tablespoon of the solution per bucket of water.
In addition, it is worth paying sufficient attention to treating bushes from pests and diseases and timely pruning.
After all, this also affects the quantity and quality of berries.
