Eggplants are heat-loving crops that require soil fertility.

If your eggplants are growing slowly, it may be due to a lack of nutrients.

To solve this problem and get a good harvest, it is necessary to use fertilizers, says Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Signs of Nutrient Deficiency

Signs of nutrient deficiency include slow growth, weak stems, small leaves, pale leaf color, poor flowering and fruiting.

Nitrogen fertilization

Nitrogen is necessary for the growth of green mass. With a nitrogen deficiency, eggplants grow poorly, the leaves become pale. As nitrogen fertilizers, you can use mullein infusion, bird droppings, herbal infusion, ammonium nitrate.

Phosphorus fertilizers

Phosphorus is necessary for the development of the root system and the formation of fruits. With a deficiency of phosphorus, eggplant leaves acquire a purple hue, and the fruits are formed small and deformed. Superphosphate, bone meal, and wood ash are used as phosphorus fertilizers.

Potassium fertilizers

Potassium increases the resistance of eggplants to diseases and stress, improves the taste of fruits. With a potassium deficiency, the edges of the leaves turn brown and dry out. Potassium sulfate, potassium magnesium sulfate, and wood ash are used as potassium fertilizers.

Microelements

For full development, eggplants need microelements: boron, manganese, zinc, copper. Signs of microelement deficiency are manifested in the form of chlorosis, leaf deformation, and dying off of growth points. Complex mineral fertilizers are used to replenish microelements.

Organic fertilizers

Organic fertilizers saturate the soil with nutrients, improve its structure, and stimulate the development of beneficial microflora. Compost, humus, peat, and green manure are used as organic fertilizers.

Feeding rules

Fertilizers are applied during the period of active growth, flowering and fruiting. It is important to observe the dosage of fertilizers, avoid getting the solution on the leaves. Fertilizers are best applied after watering or rain.
