Do trees need mulching for the winter: advice from experienced summer residents and gardeners

Winter mulch has another key function. When the first spring sun begins to shine, it helps to keep the soil frozen for longer so that plants do not experience temperature fluctuations.

Suitable mulch for trees and shrubs:

• straw;
• fallen leaves;
• needles;
• compost;
• peat;
• wood sawdust.

Please note: Winter mulch is attractive to rodents, so it is important to add repellents and pest repellents to it to prevent it from becoming an additional threat to your garden.
