Born on May 8, 1963 in the Nizhny Novgorod region. In 1988, he graduated from the Kazan State Medical University with a degree in General Medicine, after which he stayed at the university to complete an internship in neurosurgery.
From 1993 to 1996, he completed postgraduate studies in neurophysiology at the Brain Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
In 1997, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Functional restructuring in the visual analyzer under the influence of rhythmic photostimulation and a pulsed magnetic field in the norm and with a deficiency of visual afferentation.”
In 2005, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Interhemispheric asymmetry in the pathogenesis of diseases of the central nervous system and its correction by transcranial magnetic stimulation.”
