Vladimir Putin spoke on this topic during a meeting with the leader of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Sergei Menyailo.
There has been a shortage of apples in Russia for several months now, RIA Novosti reports.
Putin stressed that it is necessary to intensify efforts in this direction and put an end to this issue.
Menyailo noted that North Ossetia will make its contribution to solving this problem.
He pointed out that his region is home to the largest apple orchard in southern Russia, covering an area of 1,500 hectares.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture has set a course for 100% self-sufficiency of the Russian Federation in apples.
Statistics for 2023 show that this figure has reached 87%.
The department plans to reach the target level by 2028.
The apple shortage in Russia arose due to sudden spring frosts. Part of the future harvest was lost due to the weather that was observed in May of this year.
