It has become known how Ankara responded to the introduction of sanctions against Gazprombank.
Türkiye calls for exceptions for deals involving natural gas purchases.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated this during a speech to journalists, RIA Novosti reports.
Let us recall that, by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Gazprombank is the only financial institution through which payments for purchases of Russian natural gas are made.
Bayraktar recalled that similar concessions had already been introduced when the US imposed sanctions on Iran. Therefore, now, in order to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies, Washington should do the same.
Türkiye receives about 40% of its gas from Russia, and therefore the country's Foreign Ministry has already begun negotiations with the United States.
For reference
Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, primarily methane, with small amounts of other gases, extracted from the Earth's sedimentary rocks.
