Representatives of Russian Railways (RZD) made a statement regarding Finland’s decision.
The company accused the Finnish side of illegally confiscating Allegro high-speed trains.
Previously, these trains ran between St. Petersburg and Helsinki, RIA Novosti writes. Now the trains have been confiscated by the Finnish authorities. Russian Railways called this decision illegal.
The company emphasized that such a move by a neighboring state dealt a blow to a joint project. We are talking about the Russian-Finnish railways Karelian Trains.
Before the withdrawal of the Allegro trains, the company operated successfully, meeting passenger demand and generating profit.
The company recalled that the trains are a joint acquisition of Russian Railways and VR Group (Finland).
The court sided with Russian Railways. The seizure was declared illegal. If the Finnish side does not resume fulfilling its obligations, it will be required to pay a penalty. As of today, the amount is 552 million rubles.
