An expert explained why red caviar is becoming more expensive in Russia.
The executive director of the association of manufacturing and trade enterprises, Alexander Fomin, spoke about the reasons.
In an interview withParliamentary Newspaper , the expert stated that in 2024, fishermen caught 3 times less fish than last year.
In 2023, the total catch of salmon species reached 600,000 tons. This year, this level is 230,000 tons.
Fomin emphasized that it is still difficult to talk about the future situation with prices.
The behavior of sellers will play an important role in this. The influence will also come from seafood imports.
The expert clarified how and from which countries the products will be imported to Russia.
But the decline in salmon production has already caused prices to rise. Further developments will depend on the measures taken, he concluded.
The head of the Fish Union, Alexander Panin, emphasized that the situation is quite common.
He explained that salmon fishing is cyclical. There are periods when the catch is large, and sometimes the opposite situation occurs.
