High prices and poor selection: Matvienko called fish a product not always accessible to Russians
The Federation Council speaker spoke about fish products in Russia.
Valentina Matvienko called the choice of fish poor and the prices high.
The Chairperson of the Federation Council made this comment during the “government hour,” in which the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, took part.
As RIA Novosti quotes Matviyenko as saying, the share of fish in the average Russian’s food basket is only 2.1%.
However, such a small percentage is not at all due to the fact that Russians do not like fish.
Despite the record fish catch of 5.3 million tons set in 2023, the situation on the fish market is diametrically opposite.
This is indicated by the fact that the choice of fish products is poor, but at the same time the prices for fish have increased significantly.
For example, if pink salmon used to cost 152 rubles, now the cost of this budget red fish has risen to 270 rubles.
The same applies to inexpensive types of white fish, in particular, cod fillet, the price of which reaches two thousand rubles.
Matviyenko called for an analysis of the current situation together with the FAS in order to find out what is the reason for the increase in the cost of products.
