The number of counterfeit dollars in Russia has reached a historic low.
According to the Central Bank, only 165 counterfeit banknotes were detected in the third quarter of this year.
Over the course of a year, their number has decreased by 2.6 times, RIA Novosti emphasizes.
Also, over the past ten years, an average of 613 counterfeit banknotes have been detected annually.
However, the problem has not completely disappeared yet. Now the fraudsters have switched to the euro. The share of counterfeit euros in the total number of counterfeits in Russia was a third. And a quarter ago it was no more than 2.5%, and a year ago - 16%.
Due to the large number of counterfeits, old-style 50 and 100 dollar bills are not accepted at currency exchange offices abroad.
Experts recommend that Russians avoid old-style dollar bills when traveling abroad and making payments.
It is better to use new banknotes or alternative currencies to avoid trouble.
