Valery Gergiev responded to Nikolai Tsiskaridze and all those who criticize the Bolshoi Theater for overly expensive tickets.

The People's Artist of Russia stated that the Russian theatre's pricing policy is fully in line with global practice.

In a conversation with the publication “ Abzats ”, the director of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters emphasized that domestic cultural institutions offer tickets from first class and business class to economy comfort and so on.

He pointed out that this was not invented in Russia – it is like this all over the world.

The issue of tickets for performances being too expensive was previously raised by People's Artist of the Russian Federation Nikolai Tsiskaridze.

He noted that ticket prices for major Russian theatres need to be made more affordable.

Tsiskaridze criticized the situation when people have to pay an amount equal to a month’s salary to go to a performance.

The artist emphasized that state theaters earn money not only from ticket sales, but also receive money from the budget, which is replenished, among other things, by taxes paid by citizens.
