The Central Bank reported the mass blocking of suspicious accounts on the first day of the new law.

We are talking about a law that came into force on July 25, 2024, which gives banks the right to block suspicious accounts for 2 days.

On the first day, 30,000 such accounts were blocked, RBC reports.

First of all, banks block transfers to accounts that are included in a special database of the Central Bank. Accounts involved in fraudulent schemes are sent there.

Russians are given 2 two, and then contacted to confirm the voluntary nature of the transfer.

And this measure helped to protect the funds of some citizens. Over two months, 34% of clients whose transfers were temporarily frozen subsequently cancelled repeat transactions.

About 2,700 people refused to make a repeat transfer for a total of 53 million rubles.

At the same time, the law affected citizens who were in the legal field, but their data was stolen and used by scammers to create fraudulent accounts.

This problem will be solved by confirming the identity of citizens when opening a new account.

In 2023, criminals stole 15.8 billion rubles from bank clients by making more than 1 million unauthorized transactions.

Banks returned only 8.7% of the stolen funds. But organizations were able to prevent thefts in the amount of 5.8 trillion rubles. 34.8 million transfers that were marked as suspicious were blocked.
