Latvian authorities want to ban Russians from buying real estate in the country.
The relevant issue will be submitted for consideration by local legislators.
Riga was inspired by Finland's example. Now the government coalition plans to analyze Helsinki's experience, TASS reports.
The Latvian authorities have agreed to develop their own analogue of the law, based on the experience of Finland, which will prohibit Russian citizens from acquiring real estate in the republic.
The initiator is the country's Ministry of Agriculture. The Latvian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this issue should be resolved by legislators.
At the same time, the media learned that the republic’s foreign policy department had previously discussed this initiative with other countries.
Representatives from Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland took part in the discussion.
There is no information yet on what Riga will decide. The initiative is in its "raw" form and there is no specific data that the proposal will be approved by parliament.
So far, only Finland has banned Russians from buying real estate at the legislative level.
