You're doing it in vain: what foods don't need to be washed before cooking

Everyone knows that vegetables and fruits must be washed before consumption.

However, this rule does not apply to all products.

Chef Yulia Arkhipova explained which products are best not washed before cooking.

Red meat and fish

It is not necessary to wash red meat before cooking. After all, heat treatment will cope with possible bacteria on it perfectly.

All you need to do is remove any remaining moisture from the meat. To do this, lightly pat the pieces dry with a paper towel.

After this, you must throw away the towels and wash your hands thoroughly with soap.

The same applies to fish. If desired, you can still rinse it a little with cold water.

Poultry meat

You shouldn't wash poultry meat beforehand.

Any bacteria that may be on its surface will be killed during the cooking process.

But if you wash the meat, they can “settle” on the sink, dishes and other elements.

What foods need to be washed

It is advisable to wash eggs before cooking, especially if they are used for frying or omelettes.

You can also pre-wash frozen vegetables.

Greens also need to be washed thoroughly. Dirt accumulates on them and can be difficult to wash off with running water.

Therefore, it is better to soak the greens. It is only important to change the water several times.
