Potato dishes, especially mashed potatoes, are one of the most popular side dishes among Russians.
However, due to the neutral taste of the tuber, it is quite easy to oversalt the finished dish.
Culinary expert of HERE NEWS, chef and fourth-class baker Yulia Arkhipova will tell you how to quickly and easily correct this mistake.
If you notice that the potatoes are oversalted before you mash them, then throw them into water without salt and boil for a few minutes.
If the finished puree is oversalted, then there are several ways to neutralize the excess salt.
If the potatoes are not oversalted, add a little milk or sour cream to the puree. Lemon juice also removes excess salt, but in this case you need to make sure that instead of being oversalted, the dish does not become simply sour.
If time permits, simply boil a few more tubers without salt, mash them and add them to the oversalted dish.
Another life hack is to use the puree as a base for other dishes. It will perfectly play the role of dough for potato dumplings, zrazy, potato pies, etc.
