Just twenty years ago, all windows glowed yellow, but now the color temperature of lamps has become a completely common parameter in design matters.
Each light has its pros and cons. The expert of the online publication TUT NOVOSTI, designer Yulia Tychino, told about this in more detail.
Color temperature is measured using the Kelvin scale (K). The count starts with absolute darkness, which is assigned a value of 0 K. The higher the number, the colder the light.
For example, bright red is 1800 K, and blue-lilac light that creates the effect of a cloudy day is 6600 K.
The yellow light that many are accustomed to is within 3000 K. Cold white light is 4000-4500 K, and cold blue light exceeds 4500 K.
It has been proven that color temperature has different effects on a person’s psychological state.
For example, yellow (warm) light gives a feeling of relaxation, calm, security and comfort.
Neutral white increases productivity, helps to cast off laziness, and allows you to collect your thoughts.
Cold light has a similar effect. It sets you up for work, invigorates, and increases concentration.
Warm light is comfortable for the eyes, emphasizes the classic style of the interior, improves the mood. But there are disadvantages: it “yellows” the interior, does not contribute to productivity and literally “puts you to sleep”. A bad option for, for example, a study.
The average option is neutral light. This is a compromise for all interiors, it is relevant in any room. It does not distort the color of furniture and decorative elements, emphasizes interior details, provides excellent lighting, which is convenient for reading, cooking, playing, etc.
But there may be a feeling of formality and soullessness, as if it were not an apartment, but a hotel reception. However, everything depends on the placement of accents in the interior, which can hide this disadvantage.
Cold light can be compared psychologically to a kind of ice shower. It helps to wake up, so it is suitable for the bathroom. Cold light creates a feeling of cleanliness, neatness, freshness. It is most suitable for modern interiors, where everything is in its place.
But cold light has many disadvantages. For example, it tires the eyes, causes tension and creates a certain "operating room" effect in a living space.
