If you have a living room, it is reasonable to arrange it so that it is comfortable and beautiful to receive guests and just those who dropped in for a minute. But what if the area of this living room is small?
Is it possible to somehow increase it without re-planning, combining the living room with the kitchen and other labor-intensive solutions? Yes, it is.
The easiest way out of the situation is to play with colors and textures. For example, "merge" the furniture with the walls, choosing the same or at most a tone different shades, says Yulia Tychino .
This way, the furniture won't stick out, eating up the living room space. Or make one of the walls bright and accented, painting the rest in a neutral, calm color.
The difference can be played up with different textures. Let three walls be painted with plain paint, and one wall be finished with silk wallpaper or decorative plaster.
Moreover, this can be done not only in the living room itself, but also in the adjacent area of the loggia or balcony.
If the wall of the balcony, visible through the glass of the balcony door or window, matches the dominant color/texture in the room, then the balcony will be perceived as an extension of the living room.
The second option is to make a small living room appear larger by carefully selecting and arranging furniture.
Deep cabinets, shelves and large rectangular sofas in the company of massive armchairs are not suitable.
Give preference to low chests of drawers, no higher than a third of the wall, hanging shelves and a rounded sofa/armchairs.
A symmetrical arrangement of furniture of the same type will help increase the width of the space: for example, two light chests of drawers located opposite each other near the walls.
Option number three - remove and change some things. Massive curtains on a horse can take away a lot of light and air from the living room.
Take them down and hang lighter, flowing chiffon curtains or leave the window "bare" altogether. It is better not to put anything bulky on the windowsill facing away from the window between the living room and the balcony, towards the living room, but to make do with plants in hanging pots.
If you still want to make a slight remodeling, a reasonable solution is to widen and enlarge the doorway leading to the living room. This will immediately give a feeling of space and air.
And the fourth option is to increase the area with the help of decorative elements. These can be mirrors, indoor plants placed next to them, paintings above the sofa or on the wall that is visible through the open door from the hallway.
But it is better to get rid of the “visual noise” caused by figurines, vases, framed photographs on the dresser, and a colorful rug on the floor right away and not allow it to occur.
