The choice of color is the most important stage in the renovation work. In many ways, it will determine not only the beauty of the room, but also your mood, says Yulia Tychino .
Psychologists have long proven that different colors have an impact on a person's psychological state. Therefore, it is important to approach the choice of shades for the interior very seriously.
Cardinal directions
First of all, it is important to determine the location of the window in the room relative to the cardinal directions.
After this, a suitable color scheme is selected. In this regard, it is important to use two techniques:
- warm shades are used for the north side,
- cool shades are used on the south side.
So, if the window is in the northern part, then warm colors become the most suitable and favorable.
Among such colors are orange and yellow, as well as their various shades. And the window located in the southern part suggests the use of a colder color scheme. This is a shade such as blue.
It is necessary to look at which wall is illuminated by natural light the longest. It is this wall that can become darker. It is not worth dividing the room with different colors.
This is only possible if you resort to design. And if you highlight one wall completely with color, it can become an accent element in the interior.
Visual effect of color
Decorative elements may have other shades and colors. But this should be done in moderation, so as not to get an overly gaudy interior.
If you plan to decorate the walls with paintings, it is better to leave them neutral. In this case, attention will not be distracted from the paintings.
If you want to visually enlarge the room, use sunny bright shades of yellow. They expand the boundaries of space.
If you want to reduce the height of the room, do not paint the walls all the way to the ceiling. Leave a strip at the top, the width of which should be about 30 cm.
You can use a paint for the ceiling that is a few shades darker than the color of the walls. As a result, the ceiling will seem lower. If you want to increase the height of the room, paint the walls in stripes that go vertically.
Light-colored paint will mask surface defects. The effect will be that the refraction of light is not noticeable on light surfaces.
As a result, defects become almost invisible. The color scheme of the floor covering should match the color scheme of the interior of the room as a whole.
It is better if the color of the flooring resembles natural wood. But you should not use red for the flooring, as it will attract unnecessary attention. The shade of the curtains should repeat the shade of the walls and ceiling. But it should be brighter.
