The crisis in the 1930s in America freed up many industrial premises.
The owners began to rent them out to bohemians.
Poets, artists and musicians gathered for exhibitions and concerts, attracting many well-off bored bourgeois, says Yulia Tychino .
The simplicity of an empty workshop with a touch of bohemian gloss gave rise to the controversial loft style, which means attic or loft.
The loft managed to coexist anarchy and luxury, destruction and chic.
A clean loft implies freedom of space from unnecessary interior details and partitions. These are natural materials, simple and clear forms, focusing on art objects.
The main principles of the loft style in home interiors include:
1. Avoiding partitions as much as possible. Freedom is declared by the presence of a large open space with a lot of air. This is also achieved by walls that are not fully erected, and by zoning with the help of light, the color of floor coverings, and the distribution of furniture.
2. Balancing the careless with gloss. The dissonance of high-quality expensive things with the impression of an abandoned industrial space creates a special appeal for this style. A bias in one direction or another kills the loft. If rough, axe-like furniture is chosen, the finishing should be subtle and elegant.
The loft style is divided into several types:
1. Industrial. The prevalence of frankly industrial style: furniture made from pallets, metal surfaces.
2. Bohemian. Art objects are preferred, musical instruments are used in the interior, noble abrasions on furniture and other home interior items are welcomed.
3. Glamorous. Luxury, abundance of green plants, interior close to the Baroque style, combined with a pastel palette of shades and an abundance of mirrors.
If you plan to decorate a room in this style, preference should be given to apartments with high ceilings and large windows.
The presence of partitions is a big minus, therefore in panel houses, where their transfer is impossible, it is unlikely that the intended idea will be realized. A good option for a loft is Stalinist, Khrushchev apartments and premises with a free type of layout.
The peculiarity of this direction is that obvious shortcomings of the apartment in the form of a protruding pipe, broken tiles or Soviet stucco should not be hidden, but emphasized. With a certain imagination and not very large investments, they will become a special feature of the unique loft style.
The color palette is rather light: white, gray, beige, ocher - all this will add air and light. Accents are possible in the form of flashy colors, of which there are few: black, brown, green, coffee. Loft does not tolerate variegation, so you need to strictly monitor the laconicism of the interior.
Bohemian loft suggests highlighting exquisite, non-standard furniture against an industrial background. Glamour is characterized by even more ornate furnishings, mirrors, velvet, artificially aged furniture. Industrial direction manifests itself in the simplicity of minimalist solutions against the background of simple surfaces made of wood and metal.
It is not possible to arrange a home interior in the loft style in any case; there are several options that will not work:
• Small rooms with many different partitions.
• Apartments with very low ceilings.
• Homes with an excess of all kinds of interior items, which the owners do not intend to part with.
The loft style gives the opportunity to create a modern atmosphere without much material investment. But it is necessary to take into account objective conditions in order to bring this style into the house easily and harmoniously.
Earlier we talked about how to choose a mirror for the bathroom.
