Why does a dog bite family members: what are the reasons for this

Dogs bite each other, other animals and humans.

This is natural behavior for them. It is unnatural when a four-legged friend bites one of the members of the human family that has taken him in.

If this does happen, most cases are caused by improper training or handling.

Why does my dog bite me? Play nibbling and biting are two different things. Dogs, especially puppies, use their mouths to explore the outside world. They bite people's fingers, shoelaces, hair, and other objects that they can grab with their jaws.

This natural behavior does not pose a threat. Appropriate training will help prevent an adult from wanting to bite a finger, for example, a child.

Sometimes a person provokes an animal to reflexively bite. For example, you raise a sandwich over your head and tease your pet. It has no desire to bite. It just wants to get a portion of treat.

Jumps up, opens its mouth and tries to take the sandwich away. But instead it grabs the fingers. It is not the animal's fault. The dog bites because it has no hands, and its mouth is the only organ with which it can grab something it wants, obeying its instincts.

In most cases, animals bite family members due to improper handling and/or training. Many owners do not realize that they are doing the wrong thing.

Even if you don't hit a dog, it can bite, it perceives the behavior as a threat to itself. From fear. Or defending itself from an imaginary danger. Sometimes people show excessive force towards their pet or behave threateningly, and the dog perceives such behavior as an attempt to dominate itself.

The biting animal actually has a timid character and shows submissiveness. The person, by his actions, pushes the pet to feel a threat and take a protective measure - to bite.

This is the root of the problem, not the silly excuses people have come up with to explain their inappropriate behavior toward their four-legged friends. Don't yell threateningly at your dog.

Do not approach when it is eating. Do not make sudden movements with your hands or feet. Do not play with the animal, hanging over it. Reducing the distance between your body and the pet's body scares your four-legged friend.

Don't let your dog feel like it's cornered and the only way out is to bite and run away. Even if it's just a game or entertainment for you. Animals live by instincts. One of them is self-preservation. Think before you create a threat, even if it's imaginary.
