Why does a cat have a tail: interesting facts

Each part of a cat's body has its own purpose.

The tail has several functions at once.

Balancing

People automatically spread their arms out to the sides when walking on a narrow bridge. In a similar situation, cats use their tails instead of their arms.

The tail moves in different directions, helping to maintain balance when the pet walks on the roof of a house or a thin branch.

Steering wheel

The tail flick helps change the direction of the jump. This plays a key role when the animal is hunting, since the prey can change its trajectory at the last second.

The tail also serves its function during unexpected falls, so that the cat can land on its paws.

The steering wheel is necessary when the cat has to run away on its own, since they are worse runners than dogs. But dogs rarely catch up with cats. This is due to the fact that pets change their trajectory very unexpectedly.

Thermoregulation

Regardless of whether a cat lives indoors or outdoors, they have long since left behind the days of sleeping in snowdrifts.

As a rule, they always find cozy places. However, they always cover themselves with their tail when they curl up.

Intimidation of enemies

If an animal is frightened, its tail immediately arches and its fur stands on end.

This stance helps the animal appear taller than it actually is. There are animals that use this trick to avoid a fight.

In the natural environment, any wound, even the most minor, can have fatal consequences and become infected, which is why cats try to determine who is stronger without violence.

That's why cats can scream wildly for a long time before they start fighting. A fluffy tail can play a supporting role in intimidating an opponent.

Communication tool

Owners have long understood that the tail can serve as an indicator of the pet's mood. The signals that can be seen thanks to the tail are given by animals instinctively. These messages are intended both for the owners and for other animals.

A tail that sticks up means that the pet is self-confident. When the pet is eager to eat something tasty, the tail may tremble a little.

If a furry pet is lying down and the end of its tail is moving, this is a sure sign that it is interested. Perhaps it saw a bird outside the window and is wondering if it can catch it.

When the tail hits the floor randomly, the pet is clearly unhappy with what is happening. When the tail hits the animal on the sides, the cat is extremely irritated by something, and if the tail stops, it means the pet is about to attack.

A tail hanging low means that the cat is very scared.

Earlier it was reported that the US Ambassador admitted that she really likes Moscow.
